The Hungry is a play By Ellis Pearson and Bheki Mkhwane.

The original text

An interactive "theatre-in-the-round" experience in which a circle is drawn, where Sinakho village has gathered to perform their annual ritual ceremony. Then stranger arrives and the village will never be the same again.

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

2006: The play, presented by Sue Clarence Promotions, in association with the Playhouse Company, opened at in the Playhouse Loft (10 to 12 March), then the production transferred to Johannesburg's The Laager at the Market Theatre from 3 April to 20 May. The cast consisted of Ellis Pearson, Bheki Mkhwane and Lwazi Xaba. (For some reason the arts page ArtSmart erroneously has it that the third actor was jazz musician Ndikho Xaba)
