There are two plays called The Garden of Lies, one by Sydney Grundy (1904) and one by George H. Broadhurst (1910).
Both are based on a 1902 novel by Justus Miles Forman (1875–1915)[1], published by Grosset & Dunlap, 1902 and Ward, Lock & Company, Limited, 1905).

The original text
Adapted for the stage by Sydney Grundy (1848-1914)[2], it was produced at the St. James’s Theatre in London from the 3rd September to the 17th November, 1904.

Another adaptation for the stage by George H. Broadhurst (1866–1952)[3], was produced at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles in 1910.[4]

Performance history in South Africa
1907: The Grundy version was performed in Cape Town by the visiting Woods-Williamson Company during the first part of the year, as part of a short season at the Opera House, under the auspices of the Wheeler Brothers. The season also included The Gates of Bondage (Williamson), The King's Mistress (Anon.) and In the Palace of the King (Stoddard). The season was not well received by the Cape Town public.
