The Common Pursuit

The Common Pursuit is a play by English playwright Simon Gray (1936-2008) which follows the lives of six characters who first meet as undergraduates at Cambridge University when they are involved in setting up a literary magazine called The Common Pursuit. The title is an allusion to F. R. Leavis's 1952 collection of essays Scrutiny: The Common Pursuit.

Performance history in South Africa

1987: In South Africa the play was presented by Pieter Toerien, directed by Ken Leach at the Alhambra Theatre, first performed 4 July 1987. The cast were Jonathan Rands, Russel Savadier, Jennifer Steyn, David Clatworthy, Tim Plewman and Jeremy Crutchley. Lighting by Jannie Swanepoel, set designed by Kay Page, costumes by John Tullis. This production moved to the Baxter Theatre in October 1987.
