The Collector
A play by David Parker, from the novel by John Fowles.
The Collector is a 1963 novel by John Fowles. It was made into a movie in 1965 and turned into a stage play by David Parker and Fowles in 1973. Another version by Mark Healy was first performed at Derby Playhouse in October 1998. Many other adaptations have appeared over the years.
Performance history in South Africa
A Baxter Theatre production in 1982 was directed by Keith Grenville, starring Sean Taylor and Janet du Plessis.
Translations and adaptations
Translated into Afrikaans as Die Vlindervanger ( Lit. "The Butterfly Catcher") by Johann van Heerden, for production by students of the Drama Department, Stellenbosch University in 1986. Directed by Van Heerden.
