The Breath of Life

The Breath of Life (2002) is a play by David Hare. It tells the story of a woman who is confronted by the wife of her lover. Over the course of one day and one night, the two women reflect on their lives and the relationship with the central, yet offstage, male character. [1]

Performance history in South Africa

Pieter Toerien (by arrangement with Robert Fox) presented The Breath of Life in February through March 2004 in The Studio at the Montecasino Theatre, directed by Clare Stopford and starring Dorothy-Ann Gould as Frances and Jana Cilliers as Madeleine. In April and May 2004 the same production was staged at the Theatre on the Bay.
