JENNINGS, Stephen. (19**-) Actor.


Biography

In 1999 moved to Canada with his wife Susan Danford. They returned after 5 years and settled in the Cape in 2005. Productions in Canada (Measure for Measure, Love’s Labours Lost, and Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights), and in Britain.


Training

Studied at the University of Cape Town Drama Department.


Career

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Student productions include As I Lay Dying, Hamlet, WhenYou Comin' Home Red Ryder? and a one-man version of Purgatory. Performances in i.a. **, **, **, Birds of Paradise (Toerien, 1992). Stephen Jennings, who plays the role of Dr Harry Hyman, in Broken Glass has appeared in over 40 stage productions in South Africa (ranging from Shakespeare to Slabolepszy). He appeared in Boo to the Moon for PACT in 1987.

Co-writer and assistant director on Thina Bantu.

His local television work has included Generations, Justice For All, Honeytown, Land of Thirst, Soul City, Home Affairs, Madam & Eve, Stokvel, Sokhulu and Partners, and, most recently, League of Glory. International TV work includes Generation Kill, Traders, Psi-Factor, Blue Murder, Rhodes, This is Wonderland, The Black Velvet Band. Recent films include Free Willy: Escape from Pirates Cove, Starship Troopers, Endgame, To Be First, Diamonds and The Ambassador.

Awards, etc

Fleur du Cap 1986 for Best new Indigenous Play, Thina Bantu.

Won Vita Award as Best Supporting Actor in 1990 for his role in The Glass Menagerie. ***
