Sharp and Flat is an operatic farce, in two acts by Dennis Lawler (words) and James Hook (1746-1827)[1].

The original text

First performed at the Lyceum Theatre, English Opera, on Wednesday, August 4, 1813. Printed for C. Chapple, London in 1813.

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

1826: Performed for the first time by the English Comedy on 26 June 1826 in the Cape Town Theatre, as afterpiece to Father and Son, or The Rocks of la Charbonière (Fitzball). Done as a benefit for Mr Whiley.

1826: Performed by the Garrison Players on 2 September 1826 in the African Theatre, as afterpiece to Speed the Plough (Morton).

1828: Performed by the English Theatrical Amateur Company on 8 November 1828 in the African Theatre, along with The Mayor of Garratt (Foote) and Past ten o'Clock, or A Rainy Night (Dibdin).

1829: Performed jointly by the English Theatrical Amateur Company and the Cape Town Amateur Company on 11 July 1829 in the African Theatre, along with The Mayor of Garrett (Foote) and The Sleepwalker, or Which is the Lady? (Oulton).
