Hosted by the [[Elizabethan Society]] and the [[National Home Reading Union]]. Patrons for the evening were Lord Buxton, the Governor-General; John X. Merriman; and Harry Hands, Mayor of Cape Town. The city orchestra rendered musical items, there were recitations and enactments from the plays, and Merriman made a speech.
