Shadow of Heroes is a play by Robert Ardrey (1958) about the ant-Soviet uprising in Hungary in 1956.

The original text

First produced at the Piccadilly Theatre in London on 7 October 1958. It starred Dame Peggy Ashcroft.

Translations and adaptations

Produced in London as Stone and Star.

Broadcast to acclaim on television by the BBC. A television adaptation was made in Australia in 1961.

1975: Performed as Shadow of Heroes by PACT Drama, directed by Norman Coombes, starring Nigel Vermaas and Diane Wilson as Janos and Julie Rajk.
