Sarah's Young Man is a farce in one act by William E. Suter (1811?-1882)[1].

The original text

First performed at the Royal Surrey Theatre, April 21, 1856 and at the Boston Theatre, Boston USA, in 1858.

Published in London by Thomas Hailes Lacy in 1856 and in Boston by Charles H. Spencer in 1867.

Performance history in South Africa

1859: Performed in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town on 26 April by the Cape Town Dramatic Club, with A Cure for the Heartache (Morton).

1871: Performed by a regimental "Dramatic Club" (the sources are unclear about the company, it was possibly an outflow of or affiliation with the Cape Town Institute and Club's dramatic company) in the Theatre Royal, Main Barracks, Cape Town, on 6 May, with Slasher and Crasher (Morton) and Who's Who (Poole).

1873: Performed by Disney Roebuck and his company in the Mutual Hall, Cape Town, on 15-17 December, with Pygmalion & Galatea (Gilbert).

1875: Performed by Disney Roebuck and his company in the Bijou Theatre, Cape Town, on 19 April, with The Rivals, or A Trip to Bath (Sheridan).

1878: Performed by Disney Roebuck and his company in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, on 16 July, with East Lynne (Wood)
