Bushman. This was the colonial name for the original hunter-gatherer population of Southern Africa, deriving from Bosjesman ** . By the 1980’s the term was seen as derogatory and replaced by the more “correct” San or /Xan (indicating a click sound). However by 2000 this had been challenged in its turn, apparently referring to only one section of a larger group. *?

Also often used in combination with xhoi as xhoisan or khoisan
