A competition for playwrights instituted by SACPAC in 1987 to encourage the writing of new playtexts. The prize was a large amount of money, plus a guaranteed (touring) production by the four member performing arts councils. The award was first instituted in 1987 and the first year there was no winner. The next year the winner was Pieter Fourie with Die Koggelaar. Other winners were *** Discontinued in 199*. ****
