(1891-1974) Literary academic, translator and adaptor of plays. ** Born ‘Vaalbank’, Senekal he studied at the Grey-Universiteitskollege (Grey University College) in Bloemfontein and the University of Amsterdam. Primarily aan outstanding and highly regarded linguist and professor of Afrikaans and Dutch at the University of Potchefstroom for CHE, he adapted and modernised S.J. du Toit's Magrita Prinslo, of Liifde getrou tot in di dood (“Magrita Prinslo, or Love faithful unto death” - 189*) as Magrieta Prinsloo (1917). Also wrote a play (Jannies, Johnnies en Jantjies), collated a collection of plays (**) and two collections of Afrikaans folk songs with L.J. du Plessis (Afrikaanse volksliedjies. Deel 1.
