The Roundabout Theatre Company is something of a conundrum, being mentioned as a Cape Town based touring company in at least one source, but without further substantiation by others.

(Not to be confused with The Roundabout Theatre Company, a leading non-profit theatre company based in New York City founded in 1965 [1].)

The company

The company was apparently founded in 1979 by Henry Goodman according to another source, and was based in Cape Town. It was apparently intended to tour the Western Cape with shows ranging from drama to comedy to street theatre – and the very beginnings of industrial theatre. Before anyone had heard the term they took improvised plays into the workplace where audiences were invited to take part to solve problems.

Sources briefly referring to the company include Percy Tucker (1997) and names mentioned as performers for the company are those of Shirley Johnston and Henry Goodman, **

However no further references or detail on such a theatre company can be found. One probable explamatiom is that this may have been be a confusion with the well known Troupe Theatre Company founded in 1979.
