Biography
In the 1940s he was a radio announcer at the SABC in Cape Town. He was one of the first continuity presenters on SABC's TV1 in the 1970s. As an actor he worked for the National Theatre Organisation and other companies. He died in Johannesburg in 1988.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
In February 1962 Lang Organised a Benefit for the young actor David Beattie, to help meet his medical bills. When Beattie died shortly after, the balance of the proceeds went to the founding of the [South African Actor's Benevolent Fund]].
He starred in Christopher Fry’s The Lady's not for Burning in Cape Town at the Little Theatre (1950) and in 1956 in a production presented by the Arena Theatre Company and staged at the YMCA, also starring Jenny Gratus and Will Jamieson.
Other roles were in Bell, Book and Candle, The Flashing Stream, The Young Elizabeth, Career, Antigone (by Jean Anouilh) and The Anniversary (by Anton Chekhov).
He was Theatre International’s manager circa 1966.
Robert was the compiler of The Stage Door Cookbook.
