His parents were Ian and Doreen Greig.

Training

Career

He has worked for a variety of newspapers as theatre critic.

In 2009 he joined the staff of the University of Stellenbosch Drama Department as a part-time lecturer on South African drama. He subsequently moved abroad.

A keen and influential theatre critic, he has worked for a variety of newspapers and journals, including the Eastern Province Herald, Business Day, LitNet and SATJ. His reviews of the Grahamstown Festival productions have been especially influential over the years.

Awards, etc

He won the English Academy's Thomas Pringle Award in 1976 for a play review of PACT'S 1975 production of The Tempest and in 1985, while he was the Business Day theatre critic, for his reviews in general.

In 1977 he was awarded the Olive Schreiner Prize for his poetry.
