Became very interested in human evolution and anthropology, writing a trilogy of popular books on this [ African Genesis (1961), The Territorial Imperative (1966), The Social Contract (1970)]. Among his best known plays are Thunder Rock (1939 – First produced in South Africa by The Reps in 1940) and Jeb (1946). He wrote the play Shadow of Heroes (1958).
