Richard of Bordeaux

Richard of Bordeaux (1932) is a play by Gordon Daviot (the pen name of Elizabeth MacIntosh). Written for John Gielgud who directed it with himself as Richard at the New Theatre London in February 1932. An enormous success. The play is a colourful and sympathetic portrait of Richard II in which his wife Anne of Bohemia is given great prominence as an equal partner in their relationship.

Performance history in South Africa

1943: Presented by girls of Herschel School, Cape Town.

1951: Performed in South Africa by the Children's Theatre at the Wits Great Hall in 1951, directed by Minna Millsten with sets by her husband Basil Warner starring John Rutherford.
