Theatre that resists the status quo. (See Kruger, 1999: 130, 154). Also Theatre for resistance or Theatre of resistance, which are terms Zakes Mda uses. He uses the concept to differentiate “theatre performed with the overt aims of rallying and mobilizing the oppressed to fight against oppression” (Mda, 1995: 40-41), from Protest theatre, which simply states the problems, but does not rally the people to resistance. Examples of this include his own work and that of Maishe Maponya. [See also Kruger, 1999: 130, 154]
