Research in African Literatures (RAL) is a prestigious journal on African literature and performance.

Founded in 1970 by Bernth Lindfors, it is published by Indiana University and is a premier journal of African literary studies worldwide. It provides a forum in English for research on the oral and written literatures of Africa, as well as information on African publishing, announcements of importance to Africanists, and notes and queries of literary interest. Reviews of current scholarly books are included in every issue, often presented as review essays, and a forum offers readers the opportunity to respond to issues raised in articles and book reviews.

Past Editors have included Bernth Lindfors (The University of Texas, Austin, 1970-89), Richard Bjornson (The Ohio State University, 1990-92), F. Abiola Irele (The Ohio State University, 1992-2003), John Conteh-Morgan (The Ohio State University, 2003-08).

The current Editor is Kwaku Larbi Korang (The Ohio State University), with Associate Editors Adélékè Adéèkó (The Ohio State University), Cheik Thiam (The Ohio State University) and Managing Editor Molly Reinhoudt.
