Puppet Space

Founded in 1972 under the leadership of Lily Herzberg who acted as scriptwright, director, translator and puppeteer with Ray Querido as technical and musical assistant. Productions include The Rebirth of an Ostrich, based on a Khoi-San legend, complete with authentic music on tape and shadow puppets based on original rock paintings. Other companies such as Cape Puppet Players (with Tony Fletcher and Jill Fletcher) and the Royal Puppet Company at times performed in Cape Town under the patronage of Puppet Space. (MK)
