The Pretoria News is a respected newspaper, which has long had a good reputation for its arts coverage, founded in Pretoria by Leo Weinthal (1865 - 1930). It appeared for the first time on 11 June 1898, but ceased publication during the Boer War, only continuing after the end of the war. In 1903 the influential commentator Vere Stent acquired the newspaper and edited it till 1920.

It was later taken over by the Independent Newspapers group of publications.
