This term, as used in the ESAT encyclopaedia, primarily refers to presenters on radio and television. In the later 20th century this occupation has developed into a coveted one among performers, since it usually offers steady a income (often on part-time basis) plus substantial public exposure and celebrity. This status in turn led to box-office popularity as performers in stage presentations, as well as other benefits, financial and otherwise, from endorsements, advertising and so on.
