Picnic is a Spanish one act play by Fernando Arrabal (1932-)[1] .

Perhaps better known as Picnic en el Campo de Batalla ("Picnic on the Battlefield").

The original text

Originally called The Soldiers, it was later named Pic-Nic or Picnic in Spanish, and was written in 1947, and first performed in 1952. Sometimes found as Picnic en el Campo de Batalla.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into French as Pique-nique en Campagne.

Translated as into English as Picnic on the Battlefield from the French by Barbara Wright, and published by Calder & Boyars, 1967.

Translated into Afrikaans by Fred le Roux as Piekniek op die Slagveld (also known as Piekniek te Velde).

1974: Performed in Afrikaans as Piekniek op die Slagveld by PACOFS, directed by Annelize van der Ryst, starring Christopher Consani, Roelf Laubscher, Johan Esterhuizen and Trudi du Plessis.

1976: Performed in English as Picnic on the Battlefield in a lunch-hour presentation at The Space (Cape Town), directed by Bill Flynn with Charles Comyn, Bill Curry, Joe Gibbon, Dorrian McLaren, John Nankin and Robin Smith.
