Peet van Rensburg

P.C. Jansen van Rensburg (19**-2019) was an Afrikaans director, playwright and lecturer.

Widely known as Peet van Rensburg or Peet Jansen van Rensburg, or more formally as Dr. P.C. Jansen van Rensburg.

Biography

He studied at the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education , obtaining a doctorate on the directing principles of Stanislavski (Van Rensburg 1977), a resource which has been quite widely used by Afrikaans drama students over the years.

Taught drama at the Drama Department at the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education for 35 years, till the closure of the Drama Department in 198*, after which he worked a freelance director, translator, adaptor and playwright, inter alia for KykNet and various theatre companies.

In latter years he also owned a guest house "Cosy Cottages" in Potchefstroom.

He died of cancer on 24 Junie, 2019.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Among his works were an adaptation of Dalene Matthee's popular novel Kringe in 'n Bos, a production of Amadeus for PACOFS and widely used translations of popular plays such as Ray Cooney's Run for your Wife, under the title My Vrou se Man se Vrou.

He wrote the Afrikaans one-act plays X Ek’s, of As Jy Wil, Hoogmis, Komnet, Lazarus gaan te Ruste, Paganini and Paraat.
