Otto Bohlmann is an academic and former amateur actor.

Biography

He completed his schooling at Grey College in Bloemfontein, studied English Literature and Philosophy at the University of Cape Town, completing a D.Phil thesis there in 1989, though by then resident in the USA.

Bohlmann ultimately settled in the USA, publishing articles and books on various literary-philosophical issues and working as a book-editor, at one time for Yale University Press and later in a free-lance capacity, inter alia serving as the Managing Editor of The Metaphilosphy Journal (Southern Connecticut University).

Books by Bohlmann include Yeats and Nietzsche (Macmillan, 1982) and Conrad's Existentialism (Macmillan, 1991).

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He was a member of the Grey College Drama Society in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and the first person ever to be awarded school colours for Drama at the school.

The honour was largely driven by his notable performance as the young King Henry in a scene from Henry V, an adaptation called A Little Touch of Harry in the Night, devised and directed for the society by Temple Hauptfleisch, as the Drama Society's entre for the 1970 English Eisteddfod in the Orange Free State.
