He completed his schooling at Grey College in Bloemfontein, where he was a member of the [[Grey College Drama Society]] and the first person ever to be awarded school colours for drama at the school.
 
 
 
The honour was largely driven by his notable performance as the young king in a scene from ''[[Henry V]]'', adapted and  called ''[[A Little Touch of Harry in the Night]]'' and directed by [[Temple Hauptfleisch]] for the society,  as its entry in the local English [[Eistedfodd]] in 1970. 
 
 
 
 
 
Bohlmann ultimately went to the USA to complete a doctorate in English Literature and take up teaching positions there, publishing a number of articles and books on various literary issues and personalities, finally and becoming the Managing Editor of ''The Metaphilosphy Journal'' (Southern Connecticut University).
