The story of ** . Written and submitted for censorship in 1885, it was , based on his short story In Autumn ( Осенью ) On the Road ( На пути ). Never performed during Chekhov's lifetime, and only published after his death.
The original story apparently also provided Gorky with an aspect of the plot of Lower Depths.
