No Christmas For Us is a play by Nokuzola Zoe Bikwana.

The original text

Bikwana’s play explores the events that took place in Nyanga in December 1976 which culminated in extreme violence between township residents and migrants, otherwise known as hostel dwellers.

It was one of the two winners of the 2016 SCrIBE Scriptwriting Competition, alongside Milton Schorr’s The Heroin Diaries.


Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

2016: An excerpt was performed with the help of the Zabalaza Theatre Festival as a staged reading at the SCrIBE Scriptwriting Competition in September.

2018: Performed in an adapted form by the IGugu-Lethu Arts Academy under the tutelage of Tsepo Ya Rona, inter alia under the patronage of the project Studies in Historical Trauma and Transformation at the Stellenbosch University Museum, on 4 September.
