(1929-) British director and actor on stage and film. (Also known as Nicholas Amer & Nick Amer ) Born in Birkenhead, Cheshire and began acting profesionally in 1948. Pieter Toerien, Basil Rubin and Shirley Firth brought him to South Africa to star in Anthony Shaffer’s Sleuth, together with fellow Englishmen Ralph Michael and Warren Jenkins, who directed this thriller at the Intimate Theatre circa 1970. In 1979 he returned to direct the Des and Dawn Lindberg production of The Importance of Being Irish with Thom Delaney at the Arena Theatre in Johannesburg. [SH]
