Nag het die Wind Gebring ("Night brought the wind…") is a 3-act Afrikaans play by W.A. de Klerk.


The original text

A set in the Cape Colony during the Anglo Boer War the play deals with conflicting loyalties and generational tensions within an Afrikaner family. Published in the collection Drie Dramas, Nasionale Pers, 1947.


South African performances

1945: First staged by Volksteater in 1945 with players from the Krugersdorp Municipal Dramatic and Operatic Society directed by Anna Neethling-Pohl, decor by Kobus Esterhuysen. The cast: P.P.B. Breytenbach as Just, Enone van den Bergh, Annette Rossouw, G.P. Pretorius, J.H. du Plooy, Gert van den Bergh, Anna Neethling-Pohl.

1948: First staged professionally by NTO 1948, also directed by Anna Neethling-Pohl, with Hendrik Hanekom as Just.
