(“Goodnight, General”) by Reza de Wet. A pacifist play set in the Anglo-Boer War and relating the story of a woman avenging herself on her dying husband, the General, whom she holds responsible for the death by suffocation of her son. Published in Vrystaat Trilogie [“Free State Trilogy”] in 1991 (HAUM-Literêr).

Directed by Lucille Gillwald in 1988 for the Market Theatre Company with Sandra Prinsloo (Magda), Gys de Villiers (Generaal), Dawid Minnaar (Naas), André Stolz (Lombaard) at the Rhodes Theatre, Grahamstown Festival folowed by a run at Upstairs at the Market. In 2004 De Wet wrote Breathing In, using very much the same situation but refocusing the issues.
