Mr Barnes of New York is a play by Archibald Clavering Gunter (1847-1907)[1], (Bosman has the author as Hal Collier-Edwards ()[].
Contents
The original text
The play is based on the popular novel published in 1887 by Archibald Clavering Gunter (1847-1907)[2], telling of the European travels and adventures of Burton H. Barnes, including a romance with an English girl and involvement in a Corsican vendetta. The adaption as a stage play was done by Gunter himself it would seem and made its debut at the Broadway Theatre in New York on October 15, 1888.
Translations and adaptations
Two silent film versions were also made of the novel, one in 1914 and another in 1922.
