Michael Rice () is an academic and translator

Michael Rice was Senior Lecturer and later Associate Head of English at the Johannesburg College of Education. He was then special adviser to former education minister Kader Asmal before becoming the chairman of the Programme for the Educational Tablets in Schools (Pets) Foundation.

He did one of two English translations of Bartho Smit's award-winning Afrikaans play Christine. His translation was published in Hauptfleisch and Steadman: South African Theatre: Four Plays and an Introduction by HAUM Educational in 1984. (The other version was by Pieter Venter, who had also translated Die Verminktes as The Maimed in 196*.)
