Michael Coulson (1938-2015). Financial journalist, art critic, actor.

Biography

He was born in Yorkshire, England, on 9 October 1938. His family moved to South Africa when he was seven and he grew up and matriculated in Krugersdorp. He majored in English literature and history at the University of the Witwatersrand. He became deputy editor of tbe Financial Mail in 1987 and retired in 2003, but remained on as a consultant for a few years. He died in Johannesburg in July 2015, aged 76.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

As actor he has appeared in The Cave Dwellers as Jamie (NTO 1960), The Prisoner (NTO 1961), The Andersonville Trial as Clerk of the Court (1962). He was House Manager for a production of The Physicists in 1963.

Michael was chairman of the South African Theatre Union in 1978.
