There are a number of people with this surname who were involved in 19th century theatre in South Africa. Quite how they are linked is uncertain, though it is possible that the the person F.C.L. Bosman (1928) lists as L. Meurant or simply Meurant, wwho performed in French and Dutch plays in c Cape Town in the fiorst decade of the 19th centrurt, may have been the father of the later journalist and language activist Louis Henri Meurant.
