Biography

Born in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Ireland as Max Bor.

Career

Began his stage career in Northhampton Weekly Rep, later worked for the Old Vic Company, The Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. Starred in Penny Plain with Joyce Grenfell on an international tour and in the late 1960s, and later toured as George Bernard Shaw in the one-man presentation An Evening with GBS (also known as By George!).

He had a distinguished career in film and TV as well.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

By George was brought to South Africa in 1971 by Hymie Udwin’s Academy Theatre Productions, in collaboration with PACT and Langford-Inglis. [SH]
