Mary Twala (19**-2020), stage name for Mary Mhlongo, a South African theatre, television and film actress.

Biography

Mary started acting for Gibson Kente in 1986. She died on 4 July 2020 aged 80.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Apart from many stage roles, she has also taken part in numerous South African films.

She appeared in Sheila's Day in 1993, The Game 1997, SeZaR 2001.

Awards, etc

She won awards for her portrayals in both Undenzani Mlewane and Taxi to Soweto.

She was awarded a Naledi Award (Lifetime Achiever), award year 2004.

In July 2005 she was honoured at the Living Legend Awards organised by the United Theatre Practitioners of South Africa (UTP) at the Windybrow Theatre in Johannesburg.

She was awarded the prestigious Order of Ikhamanga in 2020
