Marietha Channell (1949-) Theatre administrator.

Biography

Born (as Marietha Snyman) and raised in the Northern Cape. She lived in Australia from 1974 to 1979, where both her children, Thomas and Sara, were born.


Training

B.Dram, University of Stellenbosch, 1970.


Career

Stage Manager, West Australian Opera Company, 1975; Theatre Manager, Oude Libertas Theatre 1984-2005; Artistic Manager Voorkamerfees 2005-2008.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

She acted in student productions such as Eurydice, Don Juan onder die Boere, Die Bruidskool.

In the early 1970s she was a member of a puppet company with Ben Dehaeck, Joleen du Plessis and Dawie Malan. The puppets were made by artist Jan Vermeiren.

On television she acted in several roles in Manie van Rensburg's series Con de Villers se Overberg.

She was one of the arts directors of the KKNK, 2003-2004.

She was one of the judges for the Smeltkroes Prize for best Afrikaans drama text, 2009.
