Marie Tempest (1864-1942) was a famous British actress.
Born Mary Susan Etherington in in London on 15 July 1864.
Between 1914-1921, she toured America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Singapore, China, Japan and the Philippines with her own company.
Her period in South Africa (1918-1919) saw productions of many of her standard repertoire of plays, including two plays by Somerset Maugham, Mrs Dotand Penelope,
She died on 15 October 1942.
