Man and Superman is a four-act play by George Bernard Shaw.


Written by George Bernard Shaw in 1903, in response to requests for him to write a play on the Don Juan theme.

The play was first performed The Royal Court Theatre in London on 23 May 1905, without the third act (containing Don Juan in Hell in Scene 2). Don Juan in Hell The , was performed when the drama was staged on 4 June 1907 at the Royal Court. The play was not performed in its entirety until 1915, when the Travelling Repertory Company played it at the Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh.


1937: Performed in the Little Theatre, Cape Town, directed by André van Gyseghem, with a cast which included George Vollaire (newly arrived from London) and Cecilia Sonnenberg.
