Lynne Maree (19**-). Actress, director, theatre manager.

Training

Career

Lynne, a Capetonian, started her professional life at the Space Theatre and moved to Johannesburg in 1976. Essentially an actress, she also directs and is primarily interested in original indigenous works.

In the 1990s she joined Chris van Niekerk to run a restaurant Theatre (Eauver the Top) in Kalk Bay and Muizenberg. *

She worked at The Space in the 1970s, acting in Fragments, I'll Ring for more Toast, It’s My Weekend, Too; Patty Hearst, Selle Ou Storie (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1974), Skyvers/Jollers, Snow White and the Special Branch (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1974), God’s Forgotten (Pieter-Dirk Uys, co-starring Magda Beukes and Christine Basson at Upstairs at the Market in 1975/1976), Strike up the Banned (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1976) Fumed Oak and Red Peppers and Workplay. She directed Rape – A Revue and Nongogo for them, doing the designs.**

Performed in Vanities (for Toerien/Firth in 1977) and in Sextet (for Toerien/Firth in 1979).

She starred in Taxi Ranks, Dear Janet Rosenberg, Dear Mr Kooning, Last of the Red Hot Lovers (1980), The Dresser (1980 and the Market Theatre in 1982), 84 Charing Cross Road at the Market Theatre in April 1982, Snake Beneath the Rose performed in 1986, Panorama (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1987/), Die Vleiroos (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1992), Comrades Arms 2000, Hans Pienaar’s Kom terug, Saartjie (2005).

She directed Pieter-Dirk UysJust Like Home at the Laager in 1989. As director she also did Paradise is Closing Down (Revisited) (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1992) ***, Die Vleiroos (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1995), [No Space on Long Street]] (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1997) * Same Old Story (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 2004) *

She directed Rape – A Revue 1978, The Honeymoon is Over (1996), Scavenger's Dream, Palang van Dwaal 1998, No Sugar, Canderel Please (2000-2002), Tsafendas in 2009, Kiss of the Spiderwoman (2011).

She co-directed The Piano Lesson.

One of the founder members of Take Away Shakespeare Company, founded The Kultcha Klub.

On television she had a role in The Syndicate.

Cape regional Vita Award 1996 Best Supporting Actress Karnaval.

Nominated Best Director Cape Vita No Space on Long Street.
