Lukhanyo Freeway Artists was founded in Grahamstown East in 1989. A community theatre group founded by Zwelinzima Somyali. The group produces their own scripts with community and social commentary as the dominant focus, ie. Crisis in the Classroom and First Stop Namanje (which is a play about challenging the status quo with mass unrest). Both these musical plays were performed at the Standard Bank National Arts Festival. The company also runs both women's traditional dance and gumboot dancing troupes.
