Lida Meiring

Lida Meiring (19**-). Actress.

Biography

She was married to Johan Fourie and began her career as a member of his Theatre Company, an Afrikaans theatre group which toured the entire country including South west Africa (now Namibia).

After his death in 1977 she returned to the stage in 1978, to work for CAPAB, PACOFS and SWAPAC.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

She has appeared in the Cape in productions including Siener in die Suburbs, Die Plaasvervangers, Op Hoop van Seën, Die Joiner, and Ek, Anna van Wyk (1984), Die Koggelaar (1987).

Her first appearance for The Company at the Market Theatre was in Outers, 1985.

"Poppie" in Die Swerfjare van Poppie Nongena 1979, Daar Leef Mense Daar (CAPAB 1982), Paul Slabolepszy’s Making Like America (Market Theatre, 1986), Madame Pernelle in Die Huigelaar (1986), A Place with the Pigs, opposite Athol Fugard (1987), and The Road to Mecca for CAPAB (Rob Amato’s revival 1989, PACOFS production of 'n Brommer in die Boord, 1989, Miss Gluck in A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur 1990, The Merry Wives of Windsor (CAPAB at the National Arts Festival 1991), Die Buite-Egtelike Ouma (1988), Die Haasvanger (1991), Donderdag se Mense (Windybrow Theatre 1990).

In the Free State she had roles in Siener in die Suburbs, Kinkels in die Kabel, Die Ryk Weduwee, Wonderlike Waldo and Die vonkel in haar oë!.

Television appearances include an interview with her on Van Kerslig tot Kollig (1982), and playing "Melissa Dreyer" in the Herberg TV-series (1983) and "Emma Luckoff" in Moord op die Lug (1986).

Radio roles include Poppie Nongena and Wie Met Vuur Speel.
