Rose to fame when she played the title role in Mbongeni Ngema’s Sarafina which opened at the Market Theatre on 12 June 1987 before touring extensively. She starred in Mbongeni Ngema’s Magic at 4 a.m at the Civic Theatre in 1993. *** Films include Sarafina! (1992) , Cry, the Beloved Country (1995) (as Leleti Kumalo) , Yesterday (2004) , Hotel Rwanda (2004) and Faith's Corner (2005) . She married Mbongeni Ngema in 1991. *
