Le Tableau Parlant ("The Talking Picture") is a French comédie-parade[, in one act with a libretto by Louis Anseaume (1821-1884)[1] and music by André Grétry (1741–1813)[2].


The original text

First performed on 20 September 1769 by the Comédie-Italienne at the Hôtel de Bourgogne in Paris.

Performance history in South Africa

1803: Performed in the African Theatre by the French Company under the leadership of C.M. Villet on Saturday 13 August with Toinon et Toinette (Desboulmiers and Gossec), Les Jardiniers (Davesne) and Le Tonnelier (Audinot).
