Adapted into English as The Scholar by John Baldwin Buckstone (1802-1879)[1] and first performed at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in July, 1835 and in New York at Wallack's Theatre in 1854.
The English text published in London by William Strange in 1835 and as No 834 of Dick's Standard Plays in [183-?] and in New York by O.A. Roorbach [186-?]
Performance history in South Africa
1870: Performed in English as The Scholar by the Young Men's Institute and Club Dramatic Company, Cape Town, on 2 September with The Waterman (Dibdin), as a benefit evening for Miss De Courtney.
1870: Performed again by the Young Men's Institute and Club Dramatic Company, Cape Town, on 19 December as "Sick Benefit" for T. Brazier, with A Terrible Tinker (Williams).
