Le Paysan, Soldat Malgré Lui
Le Paysan, Soldat Malgré Lui is the title of a one-act play performed in Cape Town on 12 August 1805 by the French Amateur Company, with Monsieur Delémery in the lead.
The original text
Nothing of substance is known about this text, through François Parfaict and Claude Parfaict (Dictionnaire des Théâtres de Paris, 1756:p.194[1]) do mention a one-act verse play called Le Soldat Poltron, also known as Soldat Malgré Lui, ou l'Epreuve Amoreuse by an anonymous author. In fact it was by Chevalier (pseudonym of Jean Simonin) (Bosman, 1928: p 91, suggests either Rosigmond or Chevalier as author).

This was quite probably an adaptation by Monsieur Delémery of Le Soldat Poltron, or a similar French work.
