Le Mariage du Capucin ("The marriage of the Capucin monk") is a French comedy in three acts by Benoît Pelletier-Volméranges (1756-1824)[1].

The original text

The French version by Benoît Pelletier-Volméranges was first produced in Paris at the Théâtre de Louvois in 1797/8 and published in Marseilles by Marchands de Nouveautés du Théâtre in 1798/9 and by Barba, Paris in 1803.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch by Adolf Tack and published by Abraham Mars, Amsterdam in 1800 as Het Huwlyk van den Capucyn ("The marriage of the Capucin monk") . Later sources (including Bosman, 1928) have the title as Het Huwelyk van den Capucyn.

Performance history in South Africa

1824: Performed as Het Huwelyk van den Capucyn by Tot Nut en Vermaak in the African Theatre, Cape Town on 21 August, 1824, with De Onechte Dochter (Meijer).
