Based on the novel Les Barons de Felsheim (1798) by Pigault-Lebrun (Charles-Antoine-Guillaume Pigault de l'Épinoy) and first performed in Paris in the Théâtre de Ambigu-Comique on 16 February. Published in Paris by Barba in 1811.
Translations and adaptations
Translated into Dutch as De Baron van Felsheim, of De Slag bij Friedberg by an unknown translator, and published in Rotterdam by J. Hendriksen (no date).
Performance history in South Africa
1847: Performed in Dutch as De Baron van Felsheim, of De Slag by Friedberg by the combined company, Het Privaat Hollandsch Tooneellievend Gezelschap playing under the combined motto Tot Nut en Vermaak en Door Yver Vruchtbaar, in the Hope Street Theatre, Cape Town on 2 November, with as afterpiece Uilenspiegel (Von Kotzebue).
